New Capabilities of the RPI γ-Multiplicity Detector to Measure γ-Production

چکیده
Accurate modeling of γ-production in neutron capture reactions is critical for many applications including on-proliferation, safeguards and nuclear reactors. To improve this work, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 16-segment γ-multiplicity NaI(Tl) detector at Gaerttner Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Center has been upgraded by implementing a digital data acquisition system. The new digitized system records γ-energy deposition distribution each individual detector, values as function time-of-flight (TOF). With capabilities, high precision (and fission) yield measurements can be made, accuracy simulation tools used to predict γ-cascades tested. validate updated system, an experiment was performed using natural Ta sample measure 181 180m resonance detecting prompt γ-rays emitted from interactions both energy measured event. results confirm earlier agree with theoretical low region 1 20 eV. We show that the CKM phase 2β +γ can be extracted from measurement of the time dependent rates in the decays B̄ → D(∗)±M∓ and B → D(∗)±M∓, where M = a0, π(1300), b1, a2, π2, ρ3. These channels have a large asymmetry between decays of B̄ 0 and B into the same final state. Even though the branching ratios are small, their sensitivity to γ can be competitive with decays into D(∗) and (π, ρ, a1). ∗Wo...
متن کاملDouble diffractive ρ−production in γ∗γ∗ collisions
We present a first estimate of the cross-section for the exclusive process γ L(Q 2 1)γ ∗ L(Q 2 2) → ρLρL, which will be studied in the future high energy e+e−− linear collider. As a first step, we calculate the Born order approximation of the amplitude for longitudinally polarized virtual photons and mesons, in the kinematical region s ≫ −t, Q1 , Q2. This process is completely calculable in the...
متن کاملQCD radiative corrections to γ∗γ∗ → hadrons
We compute the order-αS corrections to the total cross section and to jet rates for the process e+e− → e+e−+ hadrons, where the hadrons are produced through crossedchannel quark exchange in the hard scattering of two off-shell photons originating from the incoming leptons. We use a next-to-leading order general-purpose partonic Monte Carlo event generator that allows the computation of a rate d...
متن کاملJ/ψ + γ production at the LHC
The associated production of J/ψ + γ at the LHC is studied within the NRQCD framework. The signal we focus on is the production of a J/ψ and an isolated photon produced back-to-back, with their transverse momenta balanced. It is shown that even for very large values of transverse momentum (pT ∼ 50 GeV) the dominant contribution to this process is not fragmentation. This is because of the fact t...
